Hi there my name is Hayley, I'm a 26yr old female from Australia. My occupation is a website designer and I work from a home office. I have struggled with my weight since puberty, I was such a skinny kid but when the hormones kicked in the struggles began. Back in 2006 I lost 15kg just by exercising, mostly using a cross trainer for 30 mins every day after work, running on sand and up hills, it took about 6 months. I didn't change what I was eating and the weight just fell off. 4 years later, a new comfortable relationship, 5 overseas holidays the weight was all back!
This year I joined Weight Watchers online and lost 3kg in 4 months, but then the motivation stalled and so did the weight loss. I discovered the Dukan Diet in a friends magazine, and thought it sounded interesting. I had never tried a diet like this before so I thought I would give it a go. My starting weight as of January 2010 was 76.5 kg, the heaviest I have ever been.
My end goal is to wear a bikini for the first time in my life, I have been close a few times but have a naturally round tummy so I never had the confidence to let it see the light. This year I am going to Thailand in October, that's 4 months to get my beach body, yikes! With any other diet I would say it is impossible, but from what I have read the Dukan Diet might be the answer. People have been getting some amazing results and I hope I will be one of the success stories come October 2010.
So wish me luck on my journey, and all the best with yours too!
xx Hayley
My weight-loss goals are:
I am 163cm tall and 26 yrs old. The heaviest I have ever been is 76.5kg, the lightest 58kg.

Hello Everyone! Life's been great, I've been busy and haven't contributed to the website in a long time. I am so happy to see everyone supporting each other on their quest to better themselves, it's so great. I didn't get to my goal of 60kg (I did slack off the diet, I have no doubt if I didn't get sick I would have reached my goal, the momentum was there. But I made the choice to not continue due to lack of motivation and only myself to blame), I didn't wear a bikini in Thailand, but I do feel confident about how I look, I did have some cute new bathers. I am comfortable and have kept the weight off and have been 66kg for about 1 year.
I married the love of my life on 12th June 2011, it was a fantastic day and I was so thankful that I had lost weight the year before. We then travelled around Australia on our Honeymoon for 4 months and I manage to keep the weight off. I am now happy to announce that we are expecting our first child on the 8th July 2012! We are very excited about starting a family. But as anyone with weight issues knows putting on weight is a challenge mentally, I am happy to see my body change and know I have the dukan diet for after when the baby is born to get back into shape, but some days its hard watching the scales go back up to where I was. The health of my baby is number 1 and I can work on my body after bub is safely here.
Good luck everyone, keep going and I'll update you when I have more news.
x Hayley

Welldone on creating such an excellent website. I've just had an entire week of 'sneaky cheating' and was feeling very unmotivated. With some new recipes from you I'm hoping to get back on track this week. You're the same height as me and we're at about the same weight, so I'll use you as a guide post. Hopefully both of us will be feeling wonderful when the end of October rolls around. Keep it up Hayley!

Hi
I just happened to come across the site when I was looking for Dukan recipies.
I also almost have the same stats as you except i'm 18 and my starting weight was 72.5kg which is the heaviest I have been I think.(160lbish) I might have been heavier when I was younger, in fact I probably was cause I know I was fatter but I don't remember.
I just started the Dukan Diet last week, this is my 8th day. Struggling a little - its hard being the only sober one when all my friends are drunk.
But I have lost between 5 and 7lbs - my scale is a little wonky.
I'm australian but living in the US at the moment hence why all the measurements are in pounds.
I'm going to Mexico in october for a wedding so I have some of the same incentives as you - beach ready body in 2 months!

Hi Hayley,
good to see that you've recovered from your surgery and are back on the dukan bandwagon. I've been following your site and its so good to see that you're almost on your goal weight.
I started the Dukan DIet about 5 weeks ago with my husband. Our starting weights were 81 for me (the heaviest ever) and 108 for him. We weighed ourselves today and i'm at 73 and karls at 100 so we are both very happy with our progress
Thank you for the recipes too they have come very much in handy.
I still have about 10kg to go and my hubby had about 15.
All the best for the rest of the dukan stabilisation phase!

Hi Hayley
Good for you, what a great site! I have been experimenting with some of the Dukan recipes and have found some of them to not be very reliable so appreciate your site, will now try those ones of yours that have worked.
I am on day 23 of the Cruise phase and have now lost 4 kilos approx (started at 75.5 and aiming to get to 65kilos by early November).
I am 56 years old and have only really struggled with my weight since I was in my early 40s so have lots of bad habits from earlier days when I could eat anything without worrying. I love this diet so far for the same reasons that you do.
I love that I am not restricted to portion size and that in the end I will be able to pretty much eat anything as long as I stick to the few rules (eg oat bran, water, protein only Thursdays and exercise). This is what is motivating me to stay on track as if I do, hopefully I will never have to diet again!
I wish you all the best with your goals and appreciate this web site forum you have created. Good luck with your plan for your bikini. I have started walking again after not doing much for a while and that has sped things up quite a bit.

I,m confused just started 43 only tried weight watchers after babies want to lose 20lbs. When you make cookies and pancakes is it only so many oer day because it says 1-1/2 tbls of oatbran per day how do you measure in a cookie?
Alessandra

Hey Michelle,
Even when making the pancakes etc you sitll need to stick to your 2 tbs of oatbran per day. so only 1 pancake would be allowed per day. similar with cookies etc.
I make an omlette out of my egg and oatbran content sometimes and add a tin of tuna, or some bacon to change up the flavour a bit.

Hi Hayley! Its such a blessing to see your website. I have been reading a lot of testimonies but from UK most of it. I have 3kids all under 4yrs old, which is why its soo hard for me to do the recipes but seeing you- gave me my motivation back. The most motivating thing my stats are similar to yours, Im 76.7kgs and according to the dukan site my true weight is 65. Before kids I was only 60kgs but I will aim a realistic one first which is 70kilos. I want to ask you what did you substitute for fromage frais and quark? Thanks so much and more power to you!

Hi hyley, your website is fantastic. I love the photos- showing you losing weight gradually. I just want to ask, where do you get fromage frais or quark? I dont see them at coles or woolworths. Also I bought hermesetas sweetener by mistake, do you think this will do? Last question, Im planning to take fat blaster while doing the dukan diet. Is that ok? what do you think? tnx

Hi Claire, thanks for your comments, I never found fromage frais or quark either. I used extra light Philadelphia or yoghurt in my cooking instead. Check that the fat blaster doesnt have any carbohydrates in the ingredients because you need to avoid them while on the dukan diet. good luck!

Hi Claire and Hayley,
I live in Australia and found these two ingredients difficult to obtain at first but have had some luck.
Quark I found at a european deli but found it to be exactly the same aas cottage cheese! So I've stuck with that since then as quark was quite expensive.
In Australia, fromage frais is good old Fruche (says so in tiny writing on the packet)! I also found Coles stock a lower fat and sugar content version of fromage frais in their own brand and in Tamar Valley brand. It usually is stocked with the custards and creme caramels rather than with the yoghurts. You might have to try a few Coles shops though as I have two nearby and only one of them stocks the other brands outside of Fruche.
Hope your dieting is going well.

Hi Hayley,
Yes it's true. Nothing tastes as good as fitting into your new jeans, cozzies, dress ect.
It does make it worth the effort. Dukan is easy to follow, exercize can be more challangeing butalso an important part as well. You will find in Thailand many low GI options, including delicious soups, stir fries, seafood and mouth watering thai salads. So it should be easy to stick close to your diet. You go girl in your bikini and the olny thing you should need to put on is a suntan.
Good Luck.

I'm after as much movtivation and inspiration as I can as it does not take much for me to "fall off the wagon" so to speak.. :(
I have roughly 30kgs all up I'd like to get rid of, however I am being more realistic with an easier target of 5kgs, for now.
Congratulations for your hard work! You look amazing!

Hi Marg,
I'm also in my early sixties (63) and tried every diet known. I finally gave up dieting in my early fifties because it seemed to be a losing battle, till I got on the scale in September this year and found I was 7kg more than I had been last time the doctor weighed me. I decided to try again with the Dukan diet and have now been on it for two and a half weeks and have shed almost 6kg. I am not predicted to get to my true weight until next June (2012) so there is a long way to go, but thankfully my Dukan true weight is much more realistic than WeightWatchers told me should be my goal. I'm enjoying the diet and doing a bit more cooking than I usually do because it's nice to have a lot of variety. Best o' luck.

I had completed the Weight Watchers, allowed 8lbs to creep back on my 5ft frame (which looks like twice that). Since they changed the WW program it was not working for me. Dukan has been working and once you get past the attack phase it is easy---espeically with tips out there from others.
Take care,

Hey there. I'm a new Zealander living in Bahrain and am in the attack phase..lost 400g in first day. Luckily we have a large French supermarket chain here and I was able to get fat free Fromage Fraiche as well as fat free yoghurt as well as NZ steaks! My goal is to lose 5kg and like some others I never had to watch my weight until I reached menopause. I'm not one for rules but think I can live with these ones long enough to get to consolidation when it gets a bit easier. Good luck everyone :)

Hi Hayley,
You look superb- Well done!
Have just started the attack phase and hope to lose a few stone to say the least.... About 10 would be right for my current status.
I used to weight 13 st and was at my peak weight but stopped exercising and began to enjoy the good life.. business lunches, barbecues and beer (Common UK manly traits) and to top it off comfort eating was a problem and i would have a snack in between snacks and usually a dinner after a dinner-
Enough whinging from this Pom as that has now stopped and onwards and downwards with the weight loss....
Will stay in touch with my progress.......

My stats are pretty similar to yours, except that I'm a little bit taller. My true weight is 62kg, but I really want to get below 60kg. I've tried atkins, lost some and gained back. I've also tried healthpointe, lost and gained back as well. so it's quite a yo-yo for me. I placed order for the Dukan Diet book 2 weeks ago and yet to arrive. I can't wait to start as I am also planning a trip to the beach in thailand but in November 2011, ideally the goal is to be able to wear the bikini without feeling awkward. Good luck everyone!

Hi Everyone. My husand and I started the diet 5 weeks ago and we are doing just great. He has lost 7.5kg and 6.0kg for myself. We are still on the cruise phase and only eating protein with vege every 2nd day -Diane: no fruit allowed until the consolidation phase where there is one piece a day -not bananas, grapes or cherries. Hint for social gatherings, we stick to diet drinks and I make mini meatballs with yoghurt & mint dipping sauce or turn the pancakes into little blinis with salmon for nibbles.

I have lost so many inches off of my body I cannot believe it! I am very excited and feel like its something I can really stick to. I have been walking and running a mile everyday. I cannot wait to see what my body looks like by the end of the month. Lets Go! Stay focused

Hi Hayley, I am just about to start this diet thanks to your great website. this is also my first ever comment or forum on the internet. Hopefully will be able to keep it up. My boyfriend and I will be trying to lose 10kg for starters. I will try and buy the book today but have done little research so far. I am not very confident about being able to stick to another diet. I have an obsession/ addiction and it is to food... hopefully we will be able to become obsessed about U-CAN DUKAN!
lets see... thanks for being around...

Galette, from the book, pag 70:
Put 1,5 tablespoons of oat bran in a bowl, add 1,5 tablespoons of non-fat fromage frais or quark and one egg white, or a whole egg if you do not have any cholesterol problems. Sweeten with 1 tablespoon of aspartame or add a little salt according to your taste. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly and pour on to a non stick pan that has been greased beforehand with a few drops of oil then wiped with kitchen paper. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side. The galettes keep for at least a week in the fridge, but wrap them in foil or clingfilm so that they do not dry out. You can also freeze them as they will not lose their taste, texture or nutritional value.
Good Luck!

Your website is a god send. Everyone who's tried this diet will know it's one of the hardest to follow, financially, psychologically, and physically (first week i started seeing stars whilst walking up the stairs), but you're the living proof that sticking to it is really really worth it. i'm in my second week, and I've already dropped a dress size. Thank you for your motivation, you're recipes, and for sharing this with everyone else.

I am 52yrs old from Western australia. I had a child late in life at 44yrs and hadnt lost the weight. I am now premanopauseal which doesnt help the weight and bloatedness.
I was 81.8 kgs when I started just over two weeks ago now 76kg and on the cruise stage.
I am finding it easy and dont feel hungry. I also dont crave sweets like I used to.
After the 5 days on the attack phase I craved a salad & veg! I can see how little protein I was eating before.
I am feeling great and will keep going.
The recipes are great.

I started on Friday, it's now Monday and I'm down 2 kilos! I'm feeling reeeeeally low on energy and found that my body needs a small amount of carbohydrates to stay alert during the school day (I'm recently 17) so I've had a "sneaky cheat" with half a slice of mulitgrain bread today. I'm so determined to get down to my goal weight- 65 kilos. Only 25 more kilos to go!!

Hi there, My name is Lorette. Want to start the Dukan and went out to buy the book. I have been overweight since childhood and a size 16 is the thinnest i've ever been (i was in matric then. Now 35 years old with one 13 year old teenage daughter and i need to lose a whopping 125kg's. No, it's not a typo. I really have to lose 120kg's! Any advice? I can hardly stay on the attach phase indefinitely. Do i start the process and just do it over and over or do I stay in the attack phase, followed by the cruise phase and then back to the attach phase? Not sure how to approach this with so much to lose.?
Thanks, your website looks super cool.

No one is ever supposed to stay on the Attack Phase indefinitely! Please read the book! Ten days is the max.
If you have a lot of weight to lose you should seek advice from your doctor and remain under his or her care while on this diet. After the Attack Phase you move onto the Cruise Phase and stay on that until you reach your True Weight. On the Cruise Phase you would lose about 2 lbs.(almost 1 kg) a week which is safe. Once you reach your True Weight then you would move onto the Consolidation Phase. You would stay on the Consolidation Phase 5 days for every lb. lost (10 days for every kg. lost) on the Attack & Cruise Phase. Because you have so much to lose it will take some time but if you signed up for coaching, Pierre Dukan would give you advice on how to go about this...that's if you can afford it. I didn't sign up for coaching as I thought it was too expensive and I only had to lose 22 lbs. All I did was buy the book, read it a couple of times and prepare a grocery list of food I would need so I wouldn't run out of anything. Also I kept up-to-date by reading the chat history on http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/

Hi Hayley!
I've only just come across your page and I'm glad I did!
Your such an inspiration!
I'm 19, and I've struggled with weight my WHOLE life. I have PCOS also which definitely does not help matters, along with a lot of other bad habits and a family that owns a cafe.....
I'm the heaviest I have ever been. I'm 174cm and weigh 142kg. I'm embarassed to reveal that, but not ashamed because I know that once I start this diet, it won't be like that for much longer because I really want to do this!
I've tried all diets before.. Weight Watchers just like you which was a waste of money and was a fizzer, Tony Ferguson, Low GI diets which wasn't too bad.. and even the Atkins diet. This in some areas is similar to the Atkins diet but is heaps more structured and eventually you do get more vairety.
So glad to see that you've done well! Reading through your progress has given me so much more motivation too!
Keep up the great work and I love the design of the page!

Hi everyone. I'm from NZ and new to the Dukan diet. I've lost 3.4kg in the last 10 days and feel fantastic because I've dieted all my life without much success. This is the first time any plan has worked for me - I have a bad sugar addiction, but can honestly say since starting Dukan, the sugar cravings have pretty much gone away. It's fantastic having a website like this where people are the same as you and can give you much needed support.

To everyone thinking of starting this diet, please read the book first so that you understand how the diet works. You will be better prepared and more likely to stick to the diet.
Also take note that if you went to http://www.dukandiet.co.uk/ to find out your True Weight, please do the number of Attack days that was recommended for you. Under no circumstances should you go beyond 10 days. It is not good to do some extra days of Attack as at the end your body will get used to it and will not be able to lose weight anymore.
Here is what was said on the 13th of January, 2012 on the Chat history at the link above:
"I’ve done the attack phase for 4 days and have only lost 400 grams, is that ok? I gained 200 grams from yesterday to today...
virginie : Hello ! :) You were supposed to do only 2 days of attack phase. It is important to follow very strictly your program if you want results. It is not recommended to do extra PP days because your body is going to be used to it and won't react as expected when you'll need it the most. Your weight loss may not be regular and this is normal, you will encounter many up's and down's in your program."

Well done Hayley,
I started the DD before Christmas (difficult) to avoid the Silly Season hangover of extra kilos. I started at 77.7 kilos and now weigh 71 exactly. Love the diet as I enjoy protein. I also find Fruche my saviour as it gives me the sweet fix without the fat and is a great fast food brekkie with my oatbran. My MANTRA has always been - "if you fall off - get back on" as you cannot be perfect all the time and if I feel like something - eat it (or in my case wine - drink it). Also, for those girls out there with IBS - this is the best thing ever - no grain and carbs means no bloating. Will let you know when I reach my goal of 65 - in the meantime don't give up any of you.

Hi Hayley
I came across your website as I am in week for of the Dukan diet on the consolidation phase and was yesterday admitted to hospital with appendicitis and had to have key hole surgery. I wonder of the diet caused it due to the lack of fibre, I ate oat bran everyday for breakfast and drank the suggested amount of water. I've never had any bowel problems and am in very good health.
I don't think it's healthy you go back on the diet. I've been told by the doctors to stop it immediately and I will go back to eating a healthy balanced diet with plenty of exercise. Being skinny is not worth damaging your health. I would urge everyone on this page to think carefully about what the lack of fibre could be doing to your body. Appendicitis can be fatal not to mention the increased risks of bowel cancer. There is also the risk of kidney damage and kidney stones due to the high levels of protein.

Hi Nicola
I just read your post and hope you have a speedy recovery. I also noticed in week 6, Hayley also had her appendics removed.
I'm getting ready to start the Consolidation Phase, but wanted to ask, how long were you on the DD? and did you experience constipation while on the DD?
I agree it's important to stay regular, not just for comfort sake, but also for health reasons.
I've had the odd few days of not using my bowels, but not of late and I always opt for the higher fibre veges on my PV days.
I also noticed the Consolidation Phase has an increase of fibre foods/starchy foods and surprised to read that's when you had problems.
I wonder if anyone else has had appendics problems??
Like you I'm of good health and hope to continue that way, as I'm a bit of a naturalist.
If you don't mind me asking how old are you and how much weight did you lose? I am 41 and have lost 22.5kg (49.5 lbs).
I wish you well in the future and hope to hear from you soon.
Shaz :-)

Hi
I read on the official Dukan chat site that you can have 200g of carrots, beetroot or artichoke per week. Is it ok to spread this over the week? 200g is about 3 carrots. Also is it ok to eat canned beetroot and asparagus?
Thanks
Deb.
Denise

Yes, this was on the Dukan chat site as of Feb. 1, 2012. You are allowed to have 200 grams of carrots per week OR the same amount of beetroots OR the same amount of parsnips OR the same for artichokes, but you cannot have all of these within the same week. (This means you cannot have a total of 800 grams for the week.)
Yes you can spread this over the week if you like. For example: if you want 100 grams of carrots one day then you can have 100 grams of beetroots on another day. Just as long as you don't go over the 200 grams for the week.
If the canned beetroot and asparagus have no salt or sugar added it should be fine.

Thanks for clearing that up Denise. Very difficult to find tinned veg with no sugar and salt. I haven't even found tinned salmon without salt!!! I was also wondering what the results might be if you drink too much. I seem to be thirsty all of the time and try not to consume too much salt.

My husband was on the Dukan diet and is now in the hospital for a ruptured appendix. I too wonder if the lack of fiber had anything to do with it. In fact, I suspect STRONGLY that it did.

If you think that the Dukan Diet might be a weight loss program that you can follow successfully, you need to discuss the matter fully with your doctor before you start the diet as with any other diet.
The Attack Phase is the most restrictive stage of the Dukan Diet. There is no doubt that this part of the diet does not provide a balanced diet and that is why the Attack Phase should NEVER go beyond ten days. The lack of fiber in this diet from fruits and vegetables during the Attack Phase does mean that many followers experience constipation and to help overcome this problem Dr. Dukan expects individuals to eat 1 1/2 tablespoons of Oat Bran and to drink 1 1/2 to 2 liters of water each day while on the Attack Phase.
A small amount of moderate exercise is also recommended such as 20 minutes of walking.
If it was recommended that you should go on the Attack Phase for 3 days... that is all you should do and then go on to the Cruise Phase alternating the Pure Protein (PP) days with Protein Plus Vegetables (PV) days where you can eat unlimited amounts of certain high fiber vegetables. If following such a low fiber diet is not recommended by your doctor you should be able to lose weight, although much more slowly by following the Cruise Phase using PV days only until you reach your target weight. Another possibility would be to skip the Attack Phase and go straight into the Cruise Phase.
My husband & I went on this diet and experienced no problems. As a matter of fact his blood pressure went down and the doctor had to reduce his medication.
